Understand what Smart Breeze is telling you
Most temporary reconnect states mean Smart Breeze has already placed macOS in control while it obtains fresh readings and verifies ownership.
Monitoring only
Fan controls remain unavailable on fanless Macs and, in public Build 24, on every model other than Mac16,7. “Monitoring only” means Smart Breeze will not write fan-control keys; it does not guarantee that Build 24 can read temperatures on every Mac.
Build 22 first stopped ending the entire read-only snapshot when FNum is absent and added an individual sensor explorer. Build 24 keeps that path and holds last-good CPU, GPU, and Memory readings through brief AppleSMC dropouts. Physical verification on the tested M5 MacBook Air is still pending. An unavailable result is not a reason to install or repair the privileged fan helper.
Apply to qualify a fan-equipped MacmacOS approval required
Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and allow Smart Breeze under Allow in the Background. Return to Smart Breeze afterward. This is a macOS approval state, not a damaged fan connection.
Smart Boost · Reconnecting
A brief reconnecting state is expected safety behavior. macOS remains in control while Smart Breeze obtains fresh readings and verifies System ownership twice before re-arming. Version 0.3.13 coordinates restoration through one helper-owned retry lease with capped 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 30-second backoff instead of overlapping retry loops.
Smart Breeze should re-arm Smart Boost automatically after ordinary wake or helper-transport interruptions. If it repeatedly remains stopped or requires another click, use System mode, copy diagnostics, and contact support.
Automatic recovery cannot override revoked macOS approval or repair a mismatched authorization token. Re-enable the background item or choose Repair Fan Helper when Smart Breeze requests it.
After sleep or wake
Smart Breeze waits for a fresh post-wake SMC reading before restoring control. Smart Boost and an unexpired Max timer can then be reconciled. Arbitrary per-fan Manual targets are intentionally not restored.
Unavailable temperature category
Choose Any Sensor. Smart Breeze uses the hottest available reading and labels the fallback. Some Macs do not expose every CPU, GPU, memory, or battery category.
If CPU, GPU, memory, battery, and Hottest are all unavailable, check Known issues. The fan helper cannot make temperature keys appear and should not be installed as a monitoring workaround.
Actual speed differs from target
Firmware can choose a safer, higher speed, and actual RPM can take time to settle. Smart Breeze reports actual and requested RPM separately and flags a fan that persistently fails to approach a substantial manual target.
Fan ownership cannot be verified
Do not assume selecting System completed the handoff. Re-enable or repair the helper, or restart the Mac and reopen Smart Breeze. Keep the warning visible and do not delete Smart Breeze until fresh readback verifies macOS ownership.
Any unexplained ownership loss, failed System handoff, recurring required reconnect click, or helper-authentication bypass is a release blocker. Send diagnostics instead of working around it.
Contact support
Open Settings → Diagnostics → Copy Diagnostics. The report includes temperatures, fan readback, helper safety state, and recent control events, but not personal files or account information. Nothing is sent automatically. Share it with Smart Breeze support only when you choose.
